Image: Jolly Roger Pirate BoatĪs we sail out into the open seas, Captain Duv points at a land mass and exclaims, “Land ho! It’s Australia!” and at its top speed of 15 knots (about 28km/hour), it is no wonder we can see the land down under (really Robben Island, in Table Bay, near Sea Point) so soon.Ĭaptain Duv’s first mate, Pedro, stumbles up the stairs carrying a cannon on his shoulder and some face paint in a bucket.

Get ready for a fun-filled day full of laughter with the Jolly Roger. He tells us a joke:Ĭaptain Duv: “What is a pirate’s favourite letter?” We sit on the upper deck at the stern, just behind the helm, and meet Captain Bob Duv, who has been taking scurvies out to sea in the Jolly Roger since 2010. The sunset cruises include complimentary sparkling wine and a cash bar. In the high season it completes 6 trips daily, including sunset cruises. It is part of the Esa Yacoob yacht fleet – which includes the 62-foot catamaran Tigresse – and runs three to four trips daily, depending on the weather and the demand. The Jolly Roger is made from special yellow balau wood and can easily host up to 75 passengers. There’s no shortage of Instagram-worthy moments on this themed boat. We board the Jolly Roger after taking a souvenir picture of Leonardo brandishing his sword on a cannon. Leonardo planned his black-and-red pirate slops the week before, making sure he had his golden cutlass at the ready, too. We’re on a day trip with other families and young children, all wearing SAMSA-approved life jackets over our pirate garb. It is Saturday at 1pm and we’re about to embark on an adventure as crewmates on the Jolly Roger.

We sent a pirate and his parent to check it out. It’s awesome for the young-at-heart, especially kids. You can sail the seas any day of the week, any time of day – including sunset – eating, drinking, dancing to DJs and playing games. You’ve most probably seen it, but have you been onboard? It’s an experience for the adventurous. It’s great for birthday parties, end-of-year dos, bachelor/ettes send-offs and other celebrations. Here’s a party idea: dress up as a pirate and board the Jolly Roger, South Africa’s only pirate ship. This house is the things dreams are made of for a family group like ours, and it's the best stay in Broken Bow we've ever had.On board the Jolly Roger Pirate Boat Gather yer mateys, get dressed up: there’ll be food, drink + jokes on a boat We staged our Christmas card picture there, in full Halloween costumes, with Santa hats and pirate eye patches, swords, and hats. It was mostly cloudy, some sprinkles, and chilly while we were there, but it bothered none of them in the least. The big hit was the pirate ship/playground. We loved our welcome gift bag, and the littles especially enjoyed the popcorn and s'mores the adults enjoyed the wine even more. Of course, the fire pit outside, the big kitchen, the playground gave us space for everyone in any combination. The house is lovely, with plenty of spots for hanging out, including a partly enclosed patio space with a fireplace and big-screen TV.

The property was perfect for our family weekend - 4 bedrooms with king-sized beds, each with a bath, plus a bunk room for the kids.

The title of this review came straight out of the mouth of our 6-year-old granddaughter, followed by a chorus of "Yes!" from her younger cousins, except for 10-month-old Leo, but he grinned!
