It's comfortable for typing but my arms are so bad that without the more neutral hand positioning of the sculpt along with dvorak it doesn't last up for nearly as long. I also have a Poker 3 with MX blue which is nice. You can then just set the layout to dvorak in the OS. If that board looks interesting to your dad then I would advise getting some additional labels you can put over the keys so that they layout is also printed on the board for him. I learnt using sites like keybr and just picked it up with touch tpying from the offset. It does not come with the layout printed on the keys though which is an issue. I got the sculpt because it's a breeze when I am coding for a long time on top of the neutral hand position the dvorak layout is the icing on the cake. Id suggest some sort of ergo board then for sure.
